Getting out and about
Students can spend time out of doors in Nash’s beautiful woodlands, exercise and activity area and accessible walks. Summer barbeques are popular and we are currently developing an exercise assault course. We support all our students to have an active social life – which at Nash is much more than just going bowling or shopping. Our philosophy is to encourage students to be active members of the local community by offering a wide choice of venues and activities.
Students tell us what they want to do, and we support them. We use public and college transport, and the huge choice of things to do outside college includes riding, dog walking, rock choir, Zumba, Bollywood dancing, gardening, pubs, clubs, discos and regular days out places such as London or Brighton.
The clinical dietetic service used at Nash College provides advice and support for students with issues including enteral feeding, weight management, oral nutrition support and special diets.
Our qualified dieticians also work with the multi-disciplinary team to support the catering team’s work. In addition to this, our outstanding catering team do their utmost to make food delicious and safe for each student. Every student is asked about what foods they like, and the team puts a high priority on food presentation. For those with differentiated diets, staff have developed techniques to mould food to look like solids, creating dishes including lasagne, chips and vegetables. Natural products and colourings are used.
Learning to take an active part in the community, and knowing your opinion matters, is something that students gain through the Student Council. The council meets weekly with representatives from every year group. It’s a platform for students to express their choices and opinions on their college experience and their lives. Members draw up council rules at the start of the year, decide on topics for discussion, and make democratic decisions, which are fed back to Nash’s Board of Trustees by a student governor.
All representatives are encouraged to actively communicate in council meetings. Reps make presentations and lead subgroups to meaningfully represent all students. Students show that taking part in council enhances their learning in areas of decision-making and citizenship.
