MP Peter Fortune visits Shaftesbury Nash College

Peter Fortune, MP for Bromley and Biggin Hill, recently visited Shaftesbury Nash College to see first-hand the impact of specialist education.

The visit highlighted how tailored provision supports students to develop confidence, independence and essential skills, preparing them for adulthood.

During a tour of the college, Mr Fortune met students and staff and observed lessons in classes.

Head of College Martin Bentham discussed our approach to personalised learning, students’ curriculum pathways and routes to community volunteering and employment.
He also spoke about the challenges young people with special educational needs face after leaving college.

Mr Bentham said:

“We were delighted to welcome MP Peter Fortune to Shaftesbury Nash College. We really appreciated Peter’s time and his thoughtful engagement in talking to students whilst seeing the incredible work our staff do. His genuine interest meant a great deal to us and his visit helps shine a light on the importance of specialist education and the positive impact it has on the lives of our students.”

Mr Fortune spent time in classes, seeing students’ work, including the early stages of a group summer art project.

He also heard about an enterprise project where students have been involved in selling preloved clothes and accessories online through our Vinted shop, developing work-related skills and earning five-star reviews.
