A group of five students took their learning beyond the classroom and into the workplace during a work experience placement at Tuck by Truck Bexley.
Tuck by Truck Bexley is a social enterprise supporting people with learning disabilities to gain work skills.
Run by Choice Support, the enterprise supplies snacks and tuck boxes, fulfilling deliveries to businesses, offices and community organisations.
Students helped to assemble, price and pack tuck boxes for orders, using visual instructions to select items from the stock room.
Assistant Lecturer Tracey Staples valued the inclusive process and said: ‘Students were given time to process information and follow a sequence of steps to complete tasks.’
By the end of their placement, students’ confidence had blossomed, with Sherifa independently completing tasks.
For Anika, ‘doing something for the community’ was the best part of her work experience. While Bridget enjoyed meeting new people and used her assistive technology to talk to staff and volunteers.
Our thanks to Tuck by Truck Bexley. Partnerships like this play a vital role in helping students develop confidence, independence and work-related skills.
